Support selflessly

Daily Morning Devotion

Day 6

Support selflessly

According to the Old Testament, a Levite was assigned to offer his priest services, therefore they were banned to take their own land or hold possessions. In the early days of the church many people sold their possessions and put them at the feet of the apostles. Barnabas, a native of Cyprus, and a Levite, out did them all. Eventually he decided that he would really be a Levite, a Christian Levite, a landless man dedicated to the social and spiritual welfare of the church. In those early churches, people, including Barnabas, selflessly helped people who are in need. His real name was Joseph and the apostles called him Barnabas, which means son of encouragement. (Acts 4:34-37)

Barnabas, being a Levite, supported the needy not only through the priestly teachings but also he selflessly sold his belongings for the needy fellow believers. This does not mean that we need to support people by giving everything we have, but to support selflessly. Support may not be only through money but it may be through our knowledge, talent, skill and so on. People are in need of all this.

Are we ready to support their needs?

Are we ready to be a selfless giver?

Are we ready to share words of encouragement along with the support as per our potential towards the needy?

Let me hear from you on the comment section below.
