An intimate relationship with God

Philippians 3:7-11 |
Many of the Bible's great heroes included a thing in common: they longed for an intimate relationship with God as well as fellowship with him. Enoch was a man who walked with God. Noah as well as Abraham were referred to as God's friends. Moses wanted to see God's glory. David longed to see God's face. Simeon and Anna in the New Testament awaited the Messiah with eager anticipation. Jesus told Mary Magdalena not to cling to him for too long and instead go and tell the other disciples about his resurrection. Paul was really keen to learn about Jesus' power and resurrection (vs. 10), and the list might go on and on. How desperately do we desire a deep friendship and fellowship with our Savior?
The Bible's heroes figured out how to have a close relationship with God. They realized that without God, their lives were hopeless and meaningless. How much do we crave for that close relationship with God now, if we call ourselves God's children? If we want to be victorious and follow the way of the Bible's heroes, we must first satisfy our desire for connection with God (Psalm 42:1-2). We should therefore keep in mind that our relationship with God is a long-term commitment. To get so far, we'll need a strong devotional life and a continual relationship or closeness with Jesus.
