Psalm 20

This psalm deals with the bringing of an ark back to Jerusalem. At this time there was a war with the Syrians. Before the war, David wrote Psalms 20. How wise David was to claim God's blessing, power and victory before the war. When the Israelites faced the time of trials, they recited Psalm 20. When the commander was facing the battle, he recited and sang Psalm 20. It had to be read and sung before the war or trial. In verse 1 he speaks of the Lord listening to him on the day of trouble. In verse 2 he seeks help from Zion. He reminded God in verse 6 that He saves his anointed, and then in that wonderful verse 7, he speaks of the foolishness of trusting in chariots and horses but the wise those who trust in the name of our Lord for battle.

Nations have boasted their power as long as there have been armies and weapons, but such power does not last. Throughout history, empires and kingdoms have arrived to a great power that can only be dissipate into the dust. But David knew that the real power of his nation was not in weapons but in worship, not in firepower but in the power of God. Because only God can save a nation or a person, be sure that your trust is in God, who can give you an eternal victory.
